The Opticianry Program at Toros University offers a healthcare-oriented educational framework that integrates strong theoretical knowledge with practice-based vocational training, adopting a competency-based learning approach. The program aims to educate qualified opticians who possess fundamental knowledge and skills in the field of visual health, demonstrate analytical thinking, accurately assess patient needs, and adapt to advancing optical technologies.

The program consists of four semesters and a total of 120 ECTS credits, providing students with a comprehensive curriculum in which basic sciences, along with predominantly vocational and practical courses, are emphasized. Through the 3+1 education model implemented in the program, students receive theoretical and practical training at the university for three semesters, while in the final semester they are given the opportunity to apply their acquired knowledge in a real optical establishment.

Throughout the program, theoretical instruction enables students to develop the ability to communicate ethically with patients, colleagues, and other stakeholders in the optical sector. In addition, practical courses enhance their skills in lens edging and assembly, technical measurements, eyeglass repair, and the use of optical instruments.

The 3+1 education model is designed to ensure that students gain professional experience and graduate as individuals who are well-prepared for the sector. Furthermore, the curriculum is structured to support students’ professional development and to equip them with competencies aligned with industry needs through practice-oriented courses.

With its experienced academic staff, well-equipped laboratories, and quality-oriented educational approach, the program prepares students for employment in the optical sector. Graduates are eligible to establish their own optical establishments or to serve as responsible managers in existing optical businesses. They may also find employment alongside ophthalmologists or in enterprises engaged in the production of optical lenses and frames. In this way, graduates actively contribute to the delivery of visual healthcare services.
