Opticianry

Opticianry Program was established in 2014-2015 academic year and gave its first graduates in 2016. The education period of the program is 2 years and the language of education is Turkish. The score type of the program is TYT.

Opticians are health personnel who are experts in contact and cosmetic lenses, who help the patient choose the frame model suitable for the facial features of the patient, according to the prescriptions of the patients whose refractive errors are detected by the ophthalmologist, and who ensure the mounting of the optical glasses required to be used in the selected frame. With these aspects, the optician profession has an important place in protective eye health.

In the optics program, in addition to common courses such as Turkish Language and Literature I-II, Atatürk's Principles and History of Revolution I-II, Foreign Language I-II (English I-II); Courses such as Physics, Mathematics, Medical Terminology, Computer, Optics, Anatomy and Physiology of the Eye, Opticians I-II-III, Occupational Ethics in Optics, Materials and Techniques in Opticians, Cost Accounting Contact Lenses, Ophthalmology and Entrepreneurship I-II are taught. The program is 4 semesters and 3+1 education model is applied. In the 3+1 education model, there are 3 semesters of theoretical and practical courses, and in the last semester, workplace practical training, which is a vocational practice course, is given.

As Toros University, raising knowledgeable, practical and qualified individuals is among our duties. Our professors, who are successful in their fields, convey all the necessary information to our students in detail, both in theory and in practice. Since our laboratory conditions, where applied courses are given, are adequately equipped, our students develop the skills and experiences they have gained at our school in workplace practice training in the last semester. Thus, our graduate students graduate with sufficient equipment.

 Purpose of the Program: Having basic optics knowledge, knowing the operation of optics-related systems, being able to implement and planning their management, knowing eye anatomy and physiology, recognizing and using optical instruments, choosing and installing frame-glasses in accordance with prescription data, making cost calculations and work schedules of the enterprise, marketing the product, is to train the main staff who will work in the field of optics, who are entrepreneurial and self-renewing, who know their responsibilities related to environmental, social and ethical problems related to their profession.

 The Title of the Graduates and Their Jobs: The graduates of the Opticianry Program can open their own optical store with the title of “Optician” or work as the Responsible Responsible Manager in the optical stores owned by individuals. In addition, they can work in companies or factories that manufacture or import eyeglass lenses and frames.
