The First and Emergency Aid Program, which was established in the 2014–2015 academic year, is a two-year associate degree program. Considering the increasing need for healthcare personnel, the program aims to train qualified healthcare professionals who can take part in pre-hospital emergency medical services, respond rapidly and effectively at the scene, perform life-saving interventions, and actively participate in ambulance and emergency response teams.
The core of the education is based on training students to become healthcare technicians who can accurately assess the patient and the scene in emergency situations, perform basic and advanced life support procedures, have knowledge of trauma management, and effectively use equipment utilized in emergency medical services.
In addition to common courses such as Turkish Language I–II, Atatürk’s Principles and History of Reforms I–II, and English I–II, the program includes fundamental healthcare courses offered in all health programs, such as Medical Deontology, Medical Terminology, Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology and Drug Administration, Biochemistry, and First Aid. Furthermore, program-specific theoretical and practical courses include Emergency Patient Care, Basic and Advanced Life Support, Trauma and Emergency Management, Ambulance Services, and Emergency Medical Services. The theoretical and practical courses offered during the first three semesters are reinforced through a professional practice course conducted in the fourth semester, which includes hospital and field training.
Within the scope of the professional practice course, collaborations are established with public hospitals, 112 Emergency Medical Service stations, and private healthcare institutions. The practical training is carried out in these institutions under the supervision and guidance of program coordinators.
The aim of the program is to meet the growing demand for qualified emergency healthcare personnel by training individuals who possess strong knowledge and skills, can make rapid decisions, prioritize patient safety, and demonstrate high professional competence.
In addition, the program aims to educate individuals who are knowledgeable about and can interpret relevant legislation in emergency medical services, adhere to professional ethical standards, respect patient rights, are capable of teamwork, possess strong crisis management skills, and continuously improve themselves by following current developments in the field.
Career Opportunities: Graduates of the First and Emergency Aid Program receive the title of “First and Emergency Aid Technician (Paramedic)” and can work in emergency departments of public and private hospitals, 112 Emergency Medical Service stations, ambulance services, and various healthcare institutions. In addition, students may pursue a Double Major Program (DMP) during their education in fields such as Anesthesia, Dialysis, Medical Imaging Techniques, and Medical Laboratory Techniques, enabling them to graduate with a second diploma. Graduates may also continue their education at the undergraduate level by taking the Vertical Transfer Examination (VTE) and enrolling in programs such as Nursing, Nursing and Health Services, and Emergency Aid and Disaster Management.
