Decision-Making Processes and External Stakeholder Participation
In the Department of Psychology, the processes related to the planning, updating, and quality assurance of educational activities are carried out in line with the principles of participation, transparency, and continuous improvement. In our department, the department chair and the relevant academic bodies play a central role in decision-making processes, while educational objectives, program outcomes, and areas for practical improvement are evaluated through feedback received from both internal and external stakeholders.
Within this framework, our department has both a Department Advisory Board and a Student Advisory Board to contribute to academic and professional development processes. The Department Advisory Board has a multi-stakeholder structure consisting of the department chair, faculty members, an alumni representative, sector representatives, and a student representative. Through this structure, our department aims to ensure that decision-making processes reflect not only academic requirements but also the needs of practice areas and sector expectations.
During Advisory Board meetings, evaluations are made regarding education, research and development, and community engagement. The decisions taken and recommendations made are reported and monitored. Priority areas discussed in these meetings include the improvement of practice-based educational processes, the establishment of a mentoring system, the implementation of internship preparation activities, increasing students’ participation in scientific activities, and planning social responsibility projects that support social awareness.
In line with the evaluations of the boards, updates may be made to course syllabi and educational practices within our department. In this way, the views of external stakeholders and internal departmental evaluations directly contribute to the development of the educational program.
Through this systematic approach, decision-making processes in our Department of Psychology are carried out not merely as an administrative procedure, but as a dynamic structure that enhances educational quality, supports students’ professional development, and strengthens the department’s ability to respond to current needs.
