Decision-Making Processes and External Stakeholder Participation
In the Opticianry Program, the planning and updating of educational activities, as well as the implementation of quality assurance processes, are carried out in accordance with the principles of “participatory governance” and “continuous improvement.” The Program/Department Board is at the center of the decision-making mechanisms, and external stakeholder feedback constitutes a fundamental component of these processes in order to maintain the professional relevance and sectoral alignment of the program.
Within this scope, the Program Advisory Board—one of the most important guiding bodies of the program—consists of representatives from the optical industry, optical practice managers, graduates working in the field, and professionals with experience in visual health.
Advisory Board Operation, Documentation, and Curriculum Impact
The Program Advisory Board meets at least once a year under the coordination of the Program Chair with a formal agenda. To ensure transparency and traceability throughout the meetings, all agenda items discussed and decisions taken are officially documented in the “Opticianry Program Advisory Board Report” and submitted to the administration of the Vocational School of Health Services, thereby integrating the process into the program’s quality assurance system.
During these meetings:
Current professional and technological developments in the field of opticianry,
Practice-oriented needs and competency areas encountered by graduates working in the field,
Opinions of industry representatives regarding professional standards and service quality
are evaluated in detail.
Strategic feedback obtained from the board is analyzed and reported by the Program Education Committee and submitted to the relevant academic boards. In this context, considering sectoral needs, course contents are continuously updated both in theoretical and practical components in areas such as optical technologies, digital measurement systems, contact lens applications, and current approaches to visual health.
Through this systematic approach, the program strongly ensures its goal of educating qualified opticians who can adapt to the requirements of the era, respond quickly to sectoral needs, and meet professional standards effectively.
