“3+1 Applied Education Model” is an educational approach developed for senior-level opticianry students who have largely completed their coursework, enabling them to spend their final semester in the industry. This model goes beyond the traditional internship approach and aims to ensure that students actively participate in professional processes by taking on responsibilities within an optical establishment.

“Intern Opticians” are trained as job-ready professionals by integrating real-world industry practices with the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired at the university. In their final semester, students adapt to the working environment of the establishment and spend their entire time on-site in an optical workplace, i.e., directly in the field.

Importance for Students

Intern opticians have the opportunity to reinforce their theoretical knowledge through practical experience. This allows them to become more familiar with the sector and workplace environments. In addition, students gain a competitive advantage after graduation by obtaining references from the institutions where they complete their practical training, which enhances their professional confidence and prepares them for working life as well-equipped individuals.

Importance for the Program

The 3+1 applied education model strengthens cooperation between the program and the industry, thereby increasing the added value provided by graduates to both the sector and society. This model is considered to make a significant contribution to meeting the demand for qualified intermediate professionals in the optical industry.

Conditions for Becoming an Intern Student

Within the Opticianry Program of the Vocational School of Health Services at Toros University, students who have reached the final semester and have fewer than three remaining courses are designated as “Intern Students.” Students who meet these requirements are eligible to take the 3+1 Applied Education course.

Attendance and Success Criteria

The 3+1 Applied Education (Internship) course is conducted over one semester (based on 70 working days), with an 80% attendance requirement. At the end of the semester, the academic advisor determines the final grade in consideration of the evaluation of the workplace supervisor, in accordance with the “Toros University Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations.” Students who achieve at least a CC grade in this course are considered successful.
