Medical Imaging Techniques is a program that carries out radiological examinations requested by physicians using the most appropriate imaging protocols. It ensures that patients are admitted according to priority and that examinations are properly referred to the relevant departments. As a program playing a key role in early diagnosis and treatment, Medical Imaging Techniques—offered in both daytime and evening education formats—aims to contribute to accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of diseases. For a society to consist of healthy individuals, early diagnosis and timely treatment are of vital importance. In this process, medical imaging methods provide highly valuable data. The effective use of these methods depends on the presence of a well-trained and competent professional team.
This is a two-year associate degree program, and the language of instruction is Turkish. In the first and second semesters, alongside departmental courses, some courses are delivered via distance education. In the first semester, the curriculum includes Atatürk’s Principles and History of Reforms I, Turkish Language I, and English I as distance education courses, as well as Anatomy, Physiology, Radiological Imaging I, Medical and Radiological Terminology, Medical Biology, and First Aid I. In the second semester, distance education courses include Atatürk’s Principles and History of Reforms II, Turkish Language II, and English II. Departmental courses consist of Pharmacology, Radiation Safety and Protection, Radiological Imaging II, Pathology (Diseases), Radiation Biology, Maintenance and Repair of Radiological Equipment, and Information and Communication Technologies. In the third semester, students take Radiological Imaging Methods III, Nuclear Medicine, Radiological Anatomy, Angiography and Interventional Radiology, Medical Deontology, and Modern Imaging Methods. In the fourth semester, within the framework of the 3+1 education model, students complete a Professional Practice (Internship) course.
Graduates who successfully complete the Medical Imaging Techniques Program are awarded an associate degree diploma and the professional title of “Medical Imaging Technician” (Health Technician). Employment opportunities are broad and significant within the healthcare sector. Graduates can work in units such as X-ray (conventional radiography), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Mammography, Bone Densitometry, Periapical Radiography, Linear Accelerator (LINAC), and Positron Emission Tomography (PET), where they are responsible for preparing and operating imaging and radiotherapy equipment used in diagnosis and treatment.
Graduates holding the title of Medical Imaging Technician can find employment in institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Health, university hospitals, private hospitals, private imaging centers, and outpatient clinics. They may also be appointed to public positions through the Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS).
