What is Erasmus?
The Erasmus program is a European Union initiative aimed at promoting collaboration between higher education institutions. It provides unconditional financial support for higher education institutions to generate and implement joint projects, as well as facilitate short-term student and staff exchanges.
Furthermore, the program encourages the enhancement of relationships and cooperation between higher education institutions and work environments to develop the higher education system in accordance with the needs of the business world and increase the employability of university graduates in the job market. The program's objective is to improve the quality of higher education in Europe and strengthen its European dimension.
The Erasmus program is open to participating countries within the Lifelong Learning Program, which includes the 27 member states of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway (members of the European Economic Area), Turkey, Croatia, and Switzerland. For all activities within the Erasmus program, it is a requirement that at least one of the parties involved is an institution from an EU member country.
Student Mobility
- Erasmus Student Study Mobility
- Erasmus Student Traineeship Mobility
These are the two sub-activities within the Erasmus program.
With Erasmus Student Study Mobility, students enrolled at a higher education institution holding an Erasmus University Charter (EUC) in Turkey have the opportunity to become exchange students for one academic year or one or two semesters (between 3 and 12 months) at another European higher education institution holding an EUC. They can also receive financial support for the duration of their stay abroad. The financial support provided does not have to be repaid and is not intended to cover all expenses but rather to assist with additional costs associated with mobility. If selected, students can choose to become "Erasmus students without a grant."
Erasmus Student Traineeship Mobility, on the other hand, refers to the process where a student enrolled at a higher education institution undergoes vocational training and/or gains work experience in a company or organization abroad. Through Erasmus traineeship mobility, students acquire practical work experience in their field of study in a European country.
Each semester, many students from our department benefit from internships and/or study activities within the Erasmus framework.
