Intern Engineering" is a new approach developed for engineers who have completed their engineering education and are in their final semesters. It involves spending their last term (approximately 4 months uninterrupted) in the industry. Intern Engineering is not just an "internship." It goes beyond the concept of an internship and involves taking on engineering responsibilities and actively participating in work activities in the industry. "Intern Engineers" work in the industry as engineers, applying the theoretical and practical knowledge they have gained at university directly to industrial practices. They are trained to enter the industry as prepared engineers by combining their academic education with practical experience gained in the industrial setting. After completing all their courses, Intern Engineers spend one of their terms in the industry, aligning their schedules with the working hours and shifts of the industry, fully immersed in the field and production areas.
Intern Engineering is an original project within the country. One of the biggest challenges in industrial cities in Anatolia is the shortage of skilled workforce. Graduating engineers usually start their careers in institutions located in western parts of the country. As a result, there is a significant shortage of technical human resources in Anatolia. Through the Internship program, both the employment of newly graduated engineers in new institutions and the initiation of future employment agreements between companies and interns become significant achievements in terms of employment in Turkey. Creating job opportunities for new graduates and addressing the human resource gap in the industry are important milestones.
IMPORTANCE OF INTERN ENGINEERING FOR STUDENTS:
Interns learn to apply the theoretical knowledge they have acquired in a practical setting. In this regard, interns also have the opportunity to get to know the industry and companies closely. Moreover, interns become advantaged by obtaining specific references from the companies they work for and start their professional careers with high self-confidence and sufficient skills.
IMPORTANCE OF INTERN ENGINEERING FOR ENGINEERING FACULTIES:
With the implementation of Intern Engineering, coordination between faculties and companies increases, and the added value that graduating students provide to companies and society enhances. It is anticipated that this project will make a significant contribution to solving the problem of qualified technical workforce in our country.
