Introduction

The Civil Engineering Department at Toros University offers an undergraduate program that integrates strong theoretical foundations with a practice-oriented educational approach, aiming to educate engineers who can adapt to contemporary engineering needs and technological advancements. The department seeks to train innovative and entrepreneurial individuals who are capable of analytical thinking, identifying engineering problems, modeling them, and developing effective solutions.

An active learning approach is adopted throughout the educational process. Through applied courses, laboratory studies, technical site visits, and project-based learning activities, students are encouraged to apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world engineering problems. Project courses enable students to gain comprehensive experience in design, analysis, modeling, and reporting processes within an integrated engineering framework.

The compulsory internship and intern engineering practice included in the program provide students with direct exposure to the industry and opportunities to gain professional experience. This structure aims to strengthen graduates’ professional competencies and prepare them as job-ready engineers.

The department offers education in the core areas of civil engineering, including structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation, hydraulics, and construction materials. With a wide range of technical elective courses, students can specialize in their areas of interest, while double major and minor programs support interdisciplinary competence. Additionally, students have the opportunity to gain international experience through the Erasmus exchange program.

Established in 2009, the department graduated its first students in 2014 and continues to carry out its education, research, and community service activities with a commitment to continuous improvement. With its qualified academic staff, well-equipped laboratory infrastructure, and quality-oriented management approach, the department prepares students for both professional practice and graduate studies.
