The Architecture Undergraduate Program curriculum covers a four-year (eight-semester) education and requires students to complete a minimum of 240 ECTS credits and 180 local credits. The program is structured in line with program educational objectives and learning outcomes, aiming to develop students’ design, theoretical knowledge, and practical skills through a holistic approach. The curriculum has an interdisciplinary structure encompassing architectural design, building science, history and theory, technology, and representation.
The main components and course groups of the curriculum are as follows:
Design Courses: These courses aim to develop students’ design abilities, starting from fundamental design principles and progressing into advanced architectural studio projects each semester. The process begins with “Basic Design” and “Introduction to Architectural Design” in the first semester and continues through to “Architectural Design Project VIII” in the eighth semester, which serves as the graduation project.
Building and Technology Courses: These courses focus on understanding building components, materials, and structural systems. The curriculum includes technically oriented courses such as “Building Construction,” “Building Materials,” “Statics and Strength of Materials,” “Physical Environmental Control,” “Earthquake-Resistant Design,” and “Reinforced Concrete Structures.”
History and Theory of Architecture: This group includes theoretical courses addressing the historical development of architecture from its origins to the present. Core courses include “History of Architecture I, II, III” and “Urban History.”
Digital Design and Representation: These courses aim to develop skills in drawing and presenting architectural projects using advanced digital tools and technologies. The curriculum includes courses such as “Architectural Representation Techniques,” “Digital Design in Architecture I, II, III,” “Artificial Intelligence in Architecture,” and “Visual Communication Techniques.”
Conservation of Historic Environment and Restoration: These courses strengthen awareness of the historic environment through subjects such as restitution techniques and restoration processes, including courses like “Restoration Project.”
Internships and Professional Practice: To ensure practical experience, students are required to complete “Internship I” in the fourth semester and “Internship II” in the sixth semester. In addition, courses such as “Professional Practice,” “Application Project,” and “Bidding and Tendering” in the seventh semester prepare students for professional life.
General Education and Multidisciplinary Courses: The program includes courses such as “Turkish Language,” “Principles of Atatürk and History of Reforms,” “English,” “Occupational Health and Safety,” “Scientific Research and Ethics,” and “Entrepreneurship and Innovation,” as well as eight elective courses.
Continuous Improvement: The curriculum is regularly reviewed and updated based on course evaluation results, program outcome analyses, and stakeholder feedback, ensuring its relevance and effectiveness.
Foreign Language Education: Foreign language courses within the program support students in following technical literature and communicating effectively at an international level.
The curriculum was comprehensively revised in the 2024–2025 academic year in line with sectoral needs; course contents and ECTS credits were aligned with the Bologna Process and the Turkish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (TQF). The language of instruction is Turkish.
