Founder Foundation

The founder foundation of Toros University is Mersin Education Foundation.

Mersin Education Foundation is a non-profit education foundation established in 1979 to provide services in the field of education.

Mersin Education Foundation was founded by idealistic teachers. Currently, 5 members of the 8 board of trustee’s members of the Mersin Education Foundation and 4 of the 5 executive board members are educators.

Mersin Education Foundation is a pioneer in its region in various fields of education. Mersin Education Foundation opened the first Turkish school teaching in foreign languages ​​(English) in the region, the first primary school teaching foreign languages ​​starting from kindergarten, the first private science high school as well as the first summer school.

Mersin Education Foundation currently has 7 schools in Mersin and Tarsus whıch are: Pre-School Education, Primary Education, Anatolian High School, Science High School, Classical High School and last but not least, Foreign Language High School.

These Private Toros Schools belonging to Mersin Education Foundation are one of the oldest and largest educational institutions in the region.

Toros Schools have graduated academicians, bureaucrats, technocrats, artists and other graduates who have been successful in all areas of business life locally and abroad.

Mersin Education Foundation was established in 1979 by the school administrators, teachers and parents of students, when Toros College - which was founded by a group of idealistic teachers in 1964-  faced the threat of closing due to economic reasons.

Established within the Mersin Education Foundation, Toros Sports Club makes significant contributions to amateur sports activities. Toros Sports Club, which serves hundreds of athletes every year in various branches and sports categories, has trained many athletes who have been selected for the Turkish National Team and transferred to professional clubs.

Mersin Education Foundation schools, with its excellent facilities and knowledgeable staff, have won numerous achievement awards, in science, art and sports fields in Turkey and globally.

Significant success has been achieved with international programs such as international folklore festival, summer school, youth exchange projects, and globe studies organized in cooperation with various institutions abroad.

The foundation, which uses all of its income for educational services, has provided educational scholarships to many students so far. Mersin Education Foundation provides scholarships to hundreds of primary and secondary school students annually, not less than 10% of the total number of students of Toros Schools Group. In addition to these scholarships, a certain number of higher education students are given non-refundable scholarships every year, within the possibilities of the foundation.

Since the 2004-2005 academic year, UNICEF's "Come On Girls to School" campaign has been actively supported and currently 20 female students are being educated by the Mersin Education Foundation. This number continues to increase with new additional students being admitted every year.

Mersin Education Foundation, which was established to provide services in all areas of education and excels to improve service opportunities, has established Toros University in 2009.
