The Toros University English Translation and Interpretation Undergraduate Program offers a comprehensive educational model centered on both theoretical foundations and field practice, aiming to train its students as translators and interpreters equipped with international standards of language proficiency and professional competence.
Students who have completed their secondary education are admitted to our department based on the LANGUAGE score type of the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS). Due to the nature of the program, it is required that the English language proficiency of our students starting their undergraduate education be at the C1 (Advanced) level. Students who prove this proficiency with valid documents (in accordance with the directives of the Toros University School of Foreign Languages) or who succeed in the exemption exams are exempted from the Foreign Language Preparatory Class and can start their undergraduate education directly from the first year. The international student admission and the course adaptation processes of students coming via lateral transfer are also carried out within the framework of the relevant legislation of our university, thereby recognizing students' prior learning.
One of the strongest and most innovative aspects of our educational curriculum is the "7+1 Education Model," which directly responds to the needs of the sector. Throughout 7 semesters of their 8-semester undergraduate education, our students receive intensive theoretical and on-campus practical education on translation studies theories, oral and written translation techniques, localization, and terminology. They complete the last semester of their education (at least 70 working days) by actively working in sectors related to their professional fields, such as translation agencies, government institutions, import-export companies, or media organizations. This applied internship model allows our students to integrate into the business world and gain strong field experience before graduation.
The assessment and evaluation processes applied throughout the four-year undergraduate education aim to measure our students' linguistic, cultural, analytical, and practical translation competencies in a transparent and multifaceted manner. Depending on the nature of the courses, tools such as translation projects, oral performance evaluations, and internship field reports are used in addition to written exams. In order for our students to graduate from the program with a "Bachelor's Degree in Translation and Interpretation," they must successfully complete a course load of 128 credits (along with the relevant ECTS requirements), excluding common compulsory courses, and have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 2.00.
Thanks to this strong academic foundation they have acquired, our graduates who successfully complete their undergraduate education not only step into professional business life but can also continue their academic careers in postgraduate programs domestically and abroad by fulfilling the requirements of the Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) and relevant language/science exams.
