EDUCATION PLAN

The curriculum of the Undergraduate Program in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation has been structured to support the program educational objectives and program outcomes. The curriculum has a holistic structure that strengthens students’ foundation in health sciences, equips them with professional knowledge and skills, and enhances their competencies in clinical decision-making and practice.

The education plan consists of basic sciences and basic medical sciences, physiotherapy and rehabilitation field courses, clinical practices, general education courses, and applications that support professional development.

Basic Sciences and Basic Medical Sciences
Within the program, students gain a strong theoretical foundation in core areas such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, neuroanatomy, and behavioral sciences. These courses are important for understanding the structure and function of the human body, comprehending health and disease processes, and establishing the scientific basis of physiotherapy practices.

Basic science courses are supported by practical training and laboratory studies, enabling students to interpret their theoretical knowledge from a clinical perspective.

Core Field and Professional Courses
The curriculum includes courses covering the fundamental assessment and treatment approaches in physiotherapy and rehabilitation, as well as areas such as musculoskeletal system, neurological rehabilitation, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, pediatric rehabilitation, geriatric rehabilitation, electrotherapy, exercise applications, manual approaches, gait analysis, and technology-based assessment and treatment methods.

These courses are supported by theoretical content, practical classes, laboratory studies, and clinical skill development processes, and are designed to improve students’ analytical thinking, clinical problem-solving, assessment, and appropriate intervention planning skills.

General Education
The program includes general education courses that support the social, ethical, communicative, and societal dimensions of the physiotherapy profession. In this context, the program aims to develop students’:

  • professional ethical awareness,
  • teamwork skills,
  • written and verbal communication competence,
  • awareness of social responsibility.

Foreign Language Education
Foreign language courses included in the program support students in following scientific and professional literature, keeping up with current developments, and communicating at the international level.

Clinical Practice and Internship Experience
Within the program, students develop their professional skills through practical courses, clinical observation processes, and field experiences. In particular, during the fourth year, students carry out internship practices over two semesters in different institutions throughout Mersin. In this context, they receive rotation-based practical training in special education centers, public hospitals, private hospitals, elderly care centers, and private health units.

During this process, students improve their skills in assessment, planning, implementation, and professional communication by encountering different patient groups in real working environments. Throughout the internship period, students continue attending courses at the university one day per week, thus maintaining academic education simultaneously with field practice. This structure strengthens students’ professional practice competencies prior to graduation.

Continuous Improvement
The education plan is regularly reviewed and improved in line with course evaluation results, program outcome analyses, feedback from internal and external stakeholders, and recommendations from the advisory board. In this way, the relevance, effectiveness, and compliance of the program with professional requirements are ensured.

In light of all these components, our education plan has been designed to provide the knowledge, skills, and competencies required in the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
