The Medical Laboratory Techniques Program at Toros University aims to train qualified technical personnel who can work in diagnostic and treatment laboratories within the healthcare sector. Within the scope of the program, students are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform medical analyses required by physicians in relation to patients’ conditions. Throughout the two-year education period, supported by both theoretical and practical courses, students gain competence in fundamental laboratory fields such as biochemistry, hematology, microbiology, and molecular biology. In addition, they develop the ability to carry out sample collection, acceptance, storage, and analysis processes in accordance with national and international standards.
The program places strong emphasis on modern laboratory techniques, as well as quality control, biosafety, and laboratory safety. Students acquire skills in using up-to-date analytical methods such as PCR, ELISA, and spectrophotometry, along with laboratory automation systems, while being trained in adherence to ethical values, respect for patient rights, and professional responsibility. Through the professional practice training conducted in the fourth semester, which constitutes an essential part of the curriculum, students gain hands-on experience in real clinical settings and have the opportunity to transform their theoretical knowledge into practice.
The program aims to enhance students’ professional competencies through its strong laboratory infrastructure and practical training opportunities. Collaborations with university hospitals, public hospitals, private healthcare institutions, and research centers ensure that students graduate as well-prepared professionals. Graduates can find employment in both public and private sectors, including hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, public health institutions, biotechnology and food industry enterprises, as well as research and development centers. Furthermore, graduates may continue their academic careers by transferring to related undergraduate programs through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS).
In line with the Bologna Process, the program adopts a continuous improvement and quality assurance approach, keeping its curriculum up to date based on student feedback, sectoral needs, and scientific developments. In addition, international exchange programs such as Erasmus+ support students in gaining experience in different educational environments and developing a global perspective. Considering rapidly advancing healthcare technologies, the program also promotes awareness of innovative areas such as artificial intelligence–assisted diagnostic systems, digital pathology, and laboratory automation, aiming to educate individuals with interdisciplinary competencies, strong communication, and problem-solving skills.
