Industrial Engineering (Thesis)

Master's Program in Industrial Engineering

Program Objective: The aim of the master's program is to educate students who can provide solutions to advanced industrial engineering problems and provide them with the necessary knowledge for analyzing, modeling, and solving problems encountered in the industry.

Major Courses Offered in the Program: Linear Optimization, Quality Control, Engineering Applications of Stochastic Models, Human Factors Engineering, Applied Engineering.

Requirements: Student admissions to each semester are conducted according to the rules determined by the Toros University Institute of Science.

Program Rules: The completion period for the thesis-based master's program is a total of four semesters. Within the four semesters, it is mandatory to complete at least 7 courses + seminar course with a minimum of 21 credits. If this requirement is not met, the student's affiliation with the program will be terminated. The thesis work can also be completed within the four semesters. If the student completes the courses within four semesters but fails to complete the thesis work, an additional year is given to complete the thesis. The maximum duration for completing the thesis-based master's program is six semesters. The seminar course and thesis work are non-credit courses and are evaluated as either successful or unsuccessful. The student must register for the thesis period every semester starting from the semester following the assignment of an advisor. Out of the courses taken, a maximum of two courses can be selected from undergraduate courses, provided that they were not taken during the undergraduate program. Additionally, with the recommendation of the department chair and the approval of the institute board, a maximum of two courses from other higher education institutions can be selected. However, if a student fails in the thesis work within the maximum durations, or does not participate in the thesis defense, their affiliation will be terminated. In the case of thesis correction, the student completes the thesis with the corrections and submits it to their advisor. The advisor submits the thesis to the institute after stating their opinion regarding the compliance of the thesis with writing rules. The institute obtains a plagiarism detection software report related to the thesis and sends it to the advisor and jury members. In the case of evidence of actual plagiarism in the report, the thesis is sent to the institute board with the reasons for a decision to be made. The thesis jury is appointed with the recommendation of the thesis advisor and the department chair and the approval of the institute board. The jury consists of three or five academic staff members, including the student's thesis advisor and at least one external member from a different higher education institution. If the jury consists of three members, the second thesis advisor cannot be a jury member. The student who completes the thesis work submits the required number of copies of the thesis to their advisor. The advisor sends the thesis copies, along with their written opinion on the conformity of the thesis to the writing rules, to the institute through the department chair. The jury members convene within one month from the date the thesis was submitted to them and admit the student to the thesis examination. The thesis examination consists of the presentation of the thesis work and a subsequent question-and-answer session. The thesis examination is conducted in open sessions, allowing the participation of faculty members, graduate students, and experts in the field. After the completion of the thesis examination, the jury makes a decision of acceptance, rejection, or revision regarding the thesis by a simple majority. This decision is communicated to the institute through minutes within three days following the thesis examination. If a student is deemed unsuccessful and their thesis is rejected in the thesis defense examination, their affiliation will be terminated. The student whose thesis is subject to revision has a maximum of three months to defend the revised thesis before the same jury. If the student is deemed unsuccessful in this defense as well, their affiliation will be terminated. In case a student whose thesis is rejected requests it, a non-thesis master's diploma can be awarded, provided that they have fulfilled the credit load, project writing, and similar requirements of the non-thesis master's program. A student who submits their thesis to the institute within one month from the date of the thesis defense and whose thesis is deemed suitable in terms of form will be awarded a thesis-based master's diploma. Upon request, the institute board may extend the submission period by up to one more month. A student who fails to fulfill these conditions cannot receive their diploma, cannot benefit from student rights, and their affiliation will be terminated when their maximum duration expires.

Graduate Title and Career Opportunities: Individuals with a master's degree in Industrial Engineering are responsible for the balanced distribution, efficient use of resources, and establishment of collaboration among experts within an organization. Additionally, they work in areas such as job design, work measurement, wage management, material management, production planning and control, cost and budget control, quality management, industrial engineering, and ergonomics.

Message from the Department Chair: The efficient and effective utilization of resources in the manufacturing and service sectors has become more crucial than ever today. When the pressure created by rapidly changing market conditions is added to the equation, making fast and reliable decisions at strategic and operational levels has become an important competency for organizations. The aim of the program is to educate engineers who contribute to scientific and technological advancements in the field of Industrial Engineering. Within the program, besides providing research skills such as accessing, evaluating, and interpreting knowledge, comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in specialized areas related to the profession are also provided. The Master's Program in Industrial Engineering is a thesis-based program and is open to students from disciplines other than Industrial Engineering (engineering, statistics, mathematics, etc.) with the condition of taking the Scientific Preparation Program. Graduates can work in various sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, banking, transportation, logistics, electronics, education, food, marketing, insurance, both in private and public institutions, in areas such as research and development (R&D), finance, production flow, quality control, sales/marketing, information technology, human resources, etc.
