Internship Obligation

Our students are required to complete a total of 20 working days of internship to graduate. The Faculty Board determines how much of the internship completed at another institution by students who have transferred horizontally or vertically will be accepted. Applications for exemption for internships previously completed at another institution are decided by the Faculty Board upon the recommendation of the Department Internship Committee and the decision of the Department Board.

Internship Time

Internships are primarily conducted during the summer term or between the fall and spring semesters. Internships cannot be conducted on days when the student has classes or exams. However, provided it can be documented:

Students who do not have classes or exams for at least three full working days a week during summer school or the semester may complete their internship on those days with the approval of the Department Internship Committee. Students who have completed all their courses and only have their internship remaining may complete their internship in any month without waiting for the summer break.

Students whose excuses are deemed acceptable by the Department Internship Committee may complete their internships in a maximum of two parts, each lasting no less than 10 days, at different companies. If completed at different companies, a separate internship logbook must be filled out and evaluated separately for each part.

Internship Placement

The responsibility for finding an internship placement rests with the student. Students apply to public or private sector organizations through the Student Career Portal or other channels and receive acceptance; the Department Internship Committee decides on the suitability of the applied-for placement.

The company where the internship will be completed must operate in one of the following fields: international trade, foreign trade, logistics, supply chain, transportation, customs, warehousing, or import-export. The company must have a responsible staff member with at least a bachelor's degree in the relevant field. The internship logbook and evaluation form must bear the company's seal or stamp.

Internships may also be conducted outside the city or abroad, if deemed appropriate by the Department Internship Committee.

Internship Topics

The following areas are considered internships:

Import and export procedures, foreign trade legislation applications
Customs procedures and declaration preparation
Logistics and supply chain management
Transportation operations (land, sea, air, rail)
Warehousing and inventory management
Foreign trade financing, letters of credit and payment methods
International marketing and market research
Preparation and management of international trade documents
Participation in studies conducted at a relevant research institution (TÜBİTAK, universities, etc.)

The following types of work are not considered internships:

General office services that do not have professional content (photocopying, filing, cargo delivery, etc.)
Tasks consisting only of data entry or document tracking
Sales or customer service tasks unrelated to the program
Internship Application Procedure and Correspondence

After the internship company is determined, registration for the internship course is completed, and a written application is submitted to the Department at least one month before the end of the academic year with the following documents. The following steps are required:

Appendix 1: Internship Application and Acceptance Form (3 copies)
Appendix 2: Undertaking Letter (2 copies)
Appendix 3: Workplace Contract (if requested)

The documents are reviewed by the Department Internship Committee and then forwarded to the Dean's Office; once approved, the internship logbook and other documents are provided. Students who are not registered for the internship course cannot apply.

At the end of the internship, have the first page of your logbook, your weekly schedules, and each page of your daily reports approved by the workplace supervisor. Ensure that the Intern Student Evaluation Form, completed by the company, is sent to the Department Internship Committee in a sealed envelope; the company can send this envelope directly to the Department by mail or deliver it in person.

Internship Reports and Evaluation Procedures
The reports should indicate whether the student has gained sufficient professional knowledge and experience during the internship. If deemed sufficient, it is accepted; if deemed insufficient, it is partially or completely rejected.
5 full working days count as 1 week; the number of accepted weeks will be a whole number.

Content is more important than page count. Instead of short phrases like "we did this job," reports should use statements that demonstrate learning, such as "we performed this operation for this reason, we observed these things" or "this document is used for this purpose, this process works like this." Avoid advertising language when introducing the internship location or processes; instead, convey the operating principles and professional importance. Figures and tables must be accompanied by explanations; visuals without explanations will not be considered in the evaluation. Reports must be handwritten. Computer-printed reports, except for figures, will not be accepted. It is not requested that excessive brochures, user manuals, or printed documents be included in the reports.

Completion of internship

The student is then given an Oral Internship Exam by the Department Internship Committee. The committee evaluates the oral exam together with the evaluation form received from the company to decide whether the internship is successful or unsuccessful. Students who fail the internship must repeat it.
