Organization And Decision-making Process

In the Civil Engineering Program, the planning, updating, and execution of educational activities and quality assurance processes are based on the principles of participatory governance and continuous improvement. While the Department Board serves as the central decision-making body, feedback from external stakeholders constitutes a key driver in maintaining the program’s relevance to industry needs.

Within this framework, the Department Advisory Board, which functions as the program’s strategic guidance body, consists of representatives from the Chamber of Civil Engineers, executives from leading construction, infrastructure, and engineering firms, as well as program alumni actively engaged in professional practice.

The Advisory Board convenes at least once a year under the coordination of the Department Chair, following a formally defined agenda. To ensure transparency and traceability, all meeting discussions and decisions are officially documented in Advisory Board Reports, which are submitted to the Faculty Administration and systematically integrated into the program’s quality assurance system.

During these meetings, the following topics are comprehensively discussed:

  • Current technological advancements and industry trends in civil engineering and construction practices,
  • Practical challenges, competency gaps, and skill requirements observed among graduates in professional practice,
  • Sectoral projections and ethical standards defined by professional organizations (e.g., Chamber of Civil Engineers).

The strategic feedback obtained from the Advisory Board is analyzed and reported by the Education Committee and submitted to the Department Board for evaluation. Based on these inputs, curriculum revisions are implemented by prioritizing emerging industry needs. For instance, course contents are continuously updated to include topics such as sustainable construction, earthquake engineering, advanced geotechnical modeling, digitalization (e.g., BIM), and smart infrastructure systems, both at theoretical and laboratory/practical levels.

This systematic approach ensures that the program consistently achieves its Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) by preparing graduates who are capable of addressing contemporary engineering challenges and responding effectively to the evolving demands of the civil engineering profession.
