Education

The assessment and evaluation process in the Civil Engineering Undergraduate Program at Toros University is designed to measure students’ knowledge, skills, and competencies in an objective, transparent, and multidimensional manner. This process is systematically implemented to monitor the attainment of Program Outcomes (POs) and to provide data for continuous improvement in accordance with quality assurance principles.

Assessment activities are structured not only to evaluate students’ theoretical knowledge but also to measure higher-order competencies such as analytical thinking, problem-solving, engineering design, and practical application skills. These competencies are aligned with program outcomes and are continuously monitored through course-based assessment tools.

Within each course, students are evaluated through a combination of assessment instruments including midterm examinations, final examinations, quizzes, assignments, laboratory work, project presentations, and applied performance evaluations. Depending on the course content, multiple and complementary assessment methods are employed to ensure comprehensive evaluation.

Course grading is conducted in accordance with the weighting defined in the Bologna Information Package (ECTS Course Catalogue). Students are required to obtain a minimum score of 45 out of 100 in the final examination to be eligible for course success.

Attendance requirements are strictly enforced: students must attend at least 70% of theoretical courses and 80% of practical/laboratory courses in order to be eligible to take the final examination.

A letter grading system is applied. Grades AA, BA, BB, CB, and CC are considered successful, while DC and DD are conditionally successful. For a course with a DC or DD grade to be considered as passed, the student’s cumulative grade point average (CGPA) must be at least 2.00 on a 4.00 scale.

Assessment results are systematically mapped to Program Outcomes, and the collected data are used in a continuous improvement cycle.
