Internship Obligation
In order to graduate, students of our department are required to complete a total of 20 working days of internship. For students admitted through horizontal or vertical transfer, the extent to which internships previously completed at another institution will be accepted is determined by the Faculty Executive Board. Exemption applications for internships previously completed at another institution are resolved by the Faculty Executive Board upon the recommendation of the Department Internship Committee and the decision of the Department Council.
Internship Period
Internships are primarily carried out during the summer term or between the fall and spring semesters. Students cannot undertake internships on days when they have classes or examinations. However, provided that documentation is submitted:
- Students who have at least three full working days per week without classes or examinations during the summer school or regular semester may undertake their internship on those days, upon approval of the Department Internship Committee.
- Students who have completed all their courses and only have the internship remaining may complete their internship in any month without waiting for the summer break.
- Students whose excuses are deemed acceptable by the Department Internship Committee may complete their internship in up to two separate parts at different enterprises, provided that each part is not less than 10 days. In such cases, a separate internship logbook is completed and a separate evaluation is conducted for each part.
Internship Location
The responsibility for finding an internship placement lies with the student. Students apply to public or private sector organizations through Kariyer Kapısı (Career Gate) or other channels to obtain acceptance; the suitability of the chosen workplace is decided by the Department Internship Committee.
The enterprise where the internship will be conducted must operate in one of the fundamental business functions such as management and organization, accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, production, sales, or auditing. Banks, insurance companies, brokerage firms, manufacturing enterprises, service enterprises, public institutions, and non-profit organizations are also among the appropriate internship locations. The enterprise must have a responsible staff member who holds at least an undergraduate degree in a related field. The internship logbook and evaluation form must bear the official seal or stamp of the workplace.
With the approval of the Department Internship Committee, internships may also be conducted in other cities or abroad.
Internship Topics
Work conducted in the following areas is accepted as an internship:
- General accounting, cost accounting, and financial reporting processes
- Financial analysis, budgeting, and financial management practices
- Human resources management (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, personnel affairs)
- Marketing, sales, digital marketing, and customer relationship management
- Production management, inventory management, and supply processes
- Strategic management, business development, and project management processes
- Auditing, risk management, and internal control practices
- Banking, insurance, and financial market operations
- Management information systems and business analytics applications
- Participation in work conducted at a relevant research institution (TÜBİTAK, universities, etc.)
The following types of work are not accepted as an internship:
- General office services without professional content (photocopying, filing, cargo delivery, etc.)
- Work consisting solely of data entry or document tracking
- Sales or customer service tasks unrelated to the program
Internship Application Procedure and Correspondence
Once the internship workplace has been determined, the student registers for the internship course and submits a written application to the Department at least 1 month before the end of the academic term, together with the following documents:
- ANNEX-1: Internship Application and Acceptance Form (3 copies)
- ANNEX-2: Letter of Undertaking (2 copies)
- ANNEX-3: Workplace Agreement (upon request)
After the documents are reviewed by the Department Internship Committee, they are forwarded to the Dean's Office; once approved, the internship logbook and other documents are provided. Students who are not enrolled in the internship course cannot submit an application.
Upon completion of the internship, the first page of the logbook, the weekly schedules, and every page of the daily reports must be approved by the workplace supervisor. Ensure that the Intern Student Evaluation Form completed by the enterprise is delivered to the Department Internship Committee in a sealed and stamped envelope; the enterprise may either mail the envelope directly to the Department or deliver it in person.
Internship Reports and Evaluation Procedures
- Reports must demonstrate whether the student has acquired sufficient professional knowledge and experience during the internship. If deemed sufficient, the report is accepted; if deemed insufficient, it is partially or fully rejected.
- 5 full working days are counted as 1 week; the number of accepted weeks must be a whole number.
- Content is more important than page count.
- Rather than brief statements such as "we did this task," reports should contain statements that demonstrate learning, such as "we carried out this operation for this reason in this manner and observed the following" or "this document is used for this purpose, and this process functions in the following way."
- When describing the internship workplace or its processes, promotional language should be avoided; the operational principles and professional significance should be conveyed instead.
- Figures and tables must always be accompanied by explanations; visuals without explanations will not be considered in the evaluation.
- Reports must be handwritten. Computer-printed reports (except for figures) will not be accepted.
- Reports should not contain an excessive number of brochures, user manuals, or printed documents.
- Students who have completed their internship will be called to an Internship Oral Examination by the Department Internship Committee. The Committee evaluates the internship as Successful or Unsuccessful based on both the oral examination and the evaluation form received from the workplace. Students deemed unsuccessful are required to repeat their internship.
