White Coat Wearing Ceremony For Nutrition And Dietetics Students

Toros University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics 2nd and 3rd Grades white coat wearing ceremony took place.

45 Evler Campus conference hall was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Fügen Özcanarslan, academicians of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, students and their families.

At the ceremony, which started with the entrance ceremony of the students of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics to the hall accompanied by music, the head of the department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Betül Gülşen said, "Today, chronic non-communicable diseases, which are among the most common health problems of modern societies, create an increasingly important burden on public health and health care systems and this situation reveals the need for preventive health services. Within the scope of preventive health services, nutrition is the basic and preparatory reason underlying many diseases. In this context, I think that you will make a great contribution to human and public health with your education in basic medical sciences and nutritional sciences and your lifelong dietitian profession. Dietitians are nutritionists who provide nutritional support throughout the society in clinics and hospitals, nursing homes, dialysis centres, food industries, universities and research. Being an expert in nutrition gives us dietitians the opportunity and permission to assess, diagnose and treat many problems in different fields by using evidence-based medical knowledge. Dear students, today is a very important day for you. You are taking your first step into your profession by wearing your white coat. This is a beginning, a turning point for you. The white coats you will wear today as a candidate health professional are a symbol of cleanliness, purity, compassion, love, and most importantly, a symbol that inspires confidence. These white coats will accompany you throughout your professional life and will bring you a great responsibility as a part of the health services you provide. I expect you to be aware of this great responsibility every time you wear your white coat, to protect the ethical values of your profession, to observe human values in every situation, and to display a self-confident stance in every environment with your professional knowledge and skills. As a woman of the republic and a scientist in this very special period of history when we are witnessing the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic, I would like to conclude my speech with the following words of our great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk "The truest guide for everything in the world, for materiality, for spirituality, for success is science." May your path always be mind and science. I present my love and respect to your families who raised you and wish you success throughout your student life."

After the opening speech, all students, especially Sinem Kayhan, the valedictorian of the 2nd grade, and Feride Beliz, the valedictorian of the 3rd grade, were dressed in white coats one by one and the ceremony ended.
