A Journey Full of Success from 1964 to Today
Toros College was opened on August 15, 1964 by an idealistic team of 11 people, consisting of administrators and branch teachers from Mersin Tevfik Sırrı Gür High School, in the building known as “Atatürk House and Museum”. With three classes and 48 students in its first year, Toros College grew in a short time to become one of Mersin's leading institutions in education.
Rise Through Adversity
In 1975, the school moved to the old “Akdeniz College” building on Zeytinlibahçe Street, but in 1978 it was in danger of being evicted from this building by court order. Under the leadership of Ali Özveren, the school principal at the time, and with the support of parents, the “Toros College Protection and Sustenance Association” and then the “Mersin Education Foundation” were established to secure the future of the school.
On July 1, 1979, Toros College was transferred to the Mersin Education Foundation, and the foundation moved quickly to build a new school building. Located in the 45 Evler neighborhood, the new building began construction in September 1979 and was completed and put into service on April 23, 1980.
Innovative Steps in Education
Toros College became the first Turkish school in the region to offer education in a foreign language when it switched to English in 1984. Expanding its educational range over time, the college continued to contribute to educational life with the Primary School Department in 1986, Science High School in 1990, Super High School in 1996, Tarsus Private Toros Primary School and Anatolian High School in 2002, and Toros University in 2009.
60 Years of Pride
With 60 years of deep-rooted history, Toros College is proud to be a pioneering brand in education in the region. At the celebration ball, both the achievements of the past were commemorated and hopeful messages were given for the future. Participants once again emphasized the values and achievements of Toros Schools and expressed their excitement about future projects.
With its 60th anniversary, Toros College will continue to grow and shed light on future generations by increasing its contribution to education.
