Decision-Making Processes and External Stakeholder Participation
In our department, the planning and updating of educational activities and the implementation of quality assurance processes are based on the principles of “Participatory Management” and “Continuous Improvement.” While the Department Board is at the center of our decision-making mechanisms, external stakeholder feedback constitutes the main driving force of our processes in order to maintain the sectoral relevance of our program.
In this context, the most strategic guiding body of our department, the Department Advisory Board, consists of representatives from the Chamber of Architects, managers of leading architectural offices and design/construction firms in our region, and professional architects who are graduates of our program and are actively working in the field.
Operation of the Advisory Board, Documentation, and Its Impact on the Curriculum: Our Department Advisory Board meets at least once a year with an official agenda under the coordination of the Head of Department. In order to ensure transparency and traceability in the meeting processes, all agenda items discussed and decisions taken are officially documented in the “Architecture Department Advisory Board Report,” submitted to the Dean’s Office of the Faculty, and integrated into our department’s quality assurance system. In these meetings;
current design approaches and sectoral trends in the field of architecture,
professional needs and competency areas experienced by our graduates in practice,
and the sectoral forecasts and ethical standards of the professional chamber (Chamber of Architects) are discussed in detail.
These strategic feedbacks obtained from the board are analyzed and reported by the Department Education Committee and submitted to the Department Board. For example, in line with the feedback from the Advisory Board and considering current industry needs, continuous improvements and updates are made in our curriculum in areas such as digital design tools, sustainable design approaches, and contemporary construction technologies, both in theoretical courses and design studio-based courses. Through this systematic approach, our program strongly ensures its goal of educating architects who are up-to-date with contemporary requirements, innovative, and capable of responding quickly to professional needs.
