The Civil Engineering Doctoral Program has a research-oriented educational structure that aims to equip students with advanced theoretical knowledge, research competence, and the ability to produce original scientific contributions. The program is designed to support advanced specialization, covering fundamental areas of civil engineering such as structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics, transportation engineering, and building materials.
The curriculum consists of courses, a doctoral seminar, a qualifying process, and a doctoral thesis. Courses develop students' advanced knowledge and analytical skills in their chosen field, while the doctoral seminar focuses on strengthening scientific research, academic writing, and presentation skills. The qualifying process aims to evaluate the student's knowledge base in their field. The doctoral thesis aims to equip students with the ability to conduct independent research, utilize advanced scientific methods, and make original contributions to the literature.
The educational activities conducted within the program include:
- Advanced theoretical courses
- Numerical modeling and analysis studies
- Experimental and laboratory work
- Scientific seminars and academic presentations
- Doctoral thesis work conducted under the supervision of an advisor
These activities are carried out in the laboratories within the department. Advanced experimental studies can be conducted in the fields of building materials, soil mechanics, structural mechanics, hydraulics, and topography. Laboratory infrastructure and research facilities are continuously being improved to support scientific production.
A student-centered and research-oriented learning approach is adopted in the education process, aiming for students to:
- Analyze complex engineering problems at an advanced level
- Use quantitative and experimental methods in an integrated manner
- Design and conduct original scientific research
- Produce scientific publications at national and international levels
- Participate effectively in interdisciplinary studies
- Act with a sense of ethical and professional responsibility.
These are the objectives.
